Section 1 - Site Information
1.1 - What is Evangelion?
Evangelion is a classic animated series from Japan. Released in 1994 by Studio Gainax, it is widely regarded as being one of the best Anime series ever produced. The long-running success of Evangelion led to the release of two movies - 'Death and Rebirth', and 'End of Evangelion'. The twenty-six episode TV series was licensed for distribution outside Japan by ADV films, and the movies licensed by Manga Entertainment.

1.2 - What is Fanfiction?
Fanfiction is quite simple. Fans of a specific TV series, movie, book, or similar, sometimes like to write their own fiction within the same universe, using the same characters.

1.3 - What is Evafics.org?
Evafics.org is an archive of Evangelion fanfiction. It was conceived as an area where quality fanfiction could be found easily, and where all the fanfiction was of a reasonable standard before being added. In short, it's like Fanfiction.net's Evangelion section, but with a quality control system that separates the wheat from the chaff.

1.4 - Who is in charge?
The site admin is Brothers of the Fics. He hosts the site and maintains the backend code for the site as well. Other admins exist as well which are the people who tell Brothers of the Fics what needs to be done to enhance the site and also checks the stories and approves them.

1.5 - What do the Admin do?
The Admin keep the site running smoothly. They are responsible for adding new features, moving fanfiction from the unfiltered area into the main database, and just generally keeping things clean and efficient.

1.6 - How does the Site work?
A story can be accepted onto the site one of three ways:
-
Standard Submissions
- Fanfics are uploaded to EFO by the author of those stories. They are placed into the Unfiltered Area, which is the Quality Control Team's domain.
- The Quality Control team read the fanfics, and leave approval or rejection comments (which are usually sent back to the author upon the fic's addition to the main database or the fic's removal from the archive). Once a fanfic has three approvals, the fic is added to the database. In the case of a new chapter or a revision, only one approval is needed, but three rejections are still needed to keep them from getting on the site.
-
Active Enlistment Submissions
- In the interest of injecting new blood into the site the AE group has been assembled. Their job is to recommend stories from other Evangelion archives for the consideration of the QC team.
- The Standard QC members read the fanfics, and approve or reject them. If the fanfic receives three approvals, the author is invited by the site admin or by another staff member.
- If the author agrees, they, the admin, or a site staff member will upload the story to the archive.
-
Community Suggestions
- The community may also make recommendations to the QC members now. Simply create a thread on the forum entitled "[CS](Story Tile)", and inside include a link to the story and a brief description. Also, if you like, you may include why you are recommending this story for consideration.
It should be noted that we've now officially decided that QC members cannot approve their own work (yes, some of our QC team also write) or for fanfics that they have preread for.

Section 2 - Quality Control
2.1 - What is the QC team?
The Quality Control team are responsible for maintaining the quality of the fanfics posted here on Evafics.org. They read every submission, and decide whether to approve or deny the fanfic, leaving comments which are usually relayed to the author upon the addition or removal of the fanfic.

2.2 - Who is on the team?
The Standard QC are:
- Dartz-IRL, Fresh C, Himonky and Red Horseman. A fifth QC member is being chosen and should be added shortly.
Active Enlistment currently consists of the above QC members.
Sometimes, it is necessary for the Site Admin to also step in and perform QC duties. Most of the time this is unnecessary, but you should be aware that there is a chance that Brothers of the Fics will look your fic over in addition to two of the QC team.

2.3 - What does the QC team look for?
We look for fanfics that are well written. Some basic rules of thumb to keep in mind with your submissions include:
- Spell Check! There is no excuse for poor spelling in an electronic document. Just about every half decent word processor out there has some form of a spell checker. Use it.
- Use proper punctuation and grammar. We aren't Nazis when it comes to punctuation or grammar, but please do try and use it properly. Remember, when a different character begins to speak, put it on a new line. Capitalize the first letter of every sentence. Stuff like this is rudimentary, but without it, the fiction becomes very hard to read.
- Try not to slip too far Out of Character. Keep in mind that the people reading your fanfic are reading it because they want to see the series characters. If your fic is at the point where replacing the characters names with 'Bob', 'Ann' and 'Billy' would mean it was no longer an Eva fanfic, don't bother submitting it.

2.4 - My fanfic was rejected. Why?
If it was rejected, comments should have been sent to you. If you want to discuss these comments, don't hesitate to contact one of the admin. The comments we give are usually useful - read them. We don't necessarily dislike you or your fic, it may have been rejected due to bonked-up formatting, or something similar. If your fic is rejected, please don't resubmit it unless you have actually made changes.

2.5 - How do I contact the QC team?
Send an email to and he will relay the message.
We are currently working on devising an easier way to send a message to the QC team.

3.1 - How do I upload my fanfic?
Click on Join and follow the steps to create an account. Once logged in, look at the right side of your screen. Open the collapsible bar that says User CP and select Add Story/Chapter. Then select what you want to add. Simply fill out the details, attach your fanfic, and send it in.
Notes:
- The Description should be as brief as possible. The description is what will actually appear on the archive proper should the fanfic be approved.
- Select the correct type for your fanfic. If you're uploading the first chapter of a new fanfic, select 'new fanfic'. If this is subsequent chapter, select 'new chapter'.
- Do not upload summaries. Our QC team needs some meat to go on, the chances are that we'll send the fic back if it's that short.
- If you are uploading a new fanfic, only upload the first chapter. This decreases our server load, not to mention makes the queue more manageable. If the first chapter is approved, you should dump the rest on us.

3.5 - Guidelines for Fanfiction
Basic Guidelines:
Try not to violate too many of the rules of English style... Grammar and Spelling, for one thing, are a must. At the very least, run a spell checker on your work. Good writing is what this site is all about promoting, so we're way more likely to approve a fanfic that reads well. Some things to avoid include script format, and present tense. Script format is viewed by many as being a lot harder to do well, not to mention it's not as engaging as a standard narrative. Present tense is also something that is very hard to pull off well, as it often leaves your writing seeming messy and hard to follow. This isn't to say you shouldn't do either of these things - on the contrary, if you think you can pull it off, we'd love to see it.
Really, what we're after is well-written fanfiction. We don't really mind on content, in fact we'll accept anything from a classic WAFF fanfic, all the way through to horror. What we do want to see is:
- Good Spelling and Grammar. You don't need to be an English professor, but you should put a bit of effort into this.
- Good Characterization. We don't mind if the characters of the series are a little bit out of character, but stray too far and we're unlikely to accept it.
- Character Bashing is a no-no. Even if you really hated a character, please try and keep them within their actual characterization. Asuka is NOT a raving psychotic who beats up on everyone and everything, and Rei is NOT an emotionless robot.
- Fanfics which are written for the purpose of insulting another (real) person or group will be rejected.
- If you plagiarize from another work your story will be rejected, and you will be banned from the forums.
- Crossovers are fine. Just make sure that you try and keep the Evangelion characters in character as much as possible.
- While we won't reject it outright, fanfics which replace the entire cast of Evangelion with characters of the author's own design are very risky. If you do do this, make sure you justify it.
- OOC is allowed, to a degree. We understand that there is some level of OOC required to make a good WAFF fic, for example, but be careful. If you've gone OOC enough that the characters are no longer recognizable except by their physical descriptions, you won't be seeing the fanfic in our archive... unless of course you've progressively changed said character's personality over several chapters.
- Sexual content: Mark any story containing sexual content as a lemon and be sure to check the box next to 'Lemon Content?' Failure to do so is grounds for immediate denial. The QC does not look down on lemons and are not prudes when it comes to dealing with them. Just keep it tasteful. Rape is dangerous ground and is left to each individual QC member's discretion. It's not outright forbidden, but you need to be very careful with it and be sure it fits the story.
- Rants will be rejected. If your 'fanfic' is a rant on something, don't send it here. This includes rants in your Author's Notes.
3.6 - Does the QC team reject fics based on 'pairing'?
Absolutely not. We reject in terms of content. You write a good fanfic, we'll let it in regardless of pairing. If we did reject in terms of pairing, we'd be missing out on some excellent stuff.
3.7 - Author's Notes
Do not rant in your Author's Notes. Please also avoid personal attacks against other groups or people in your notes, be they George W. Bush, the Ku Klux Klan or the Fanfiction Yakuza... we don't want to see it.
3.8 - How long will my fic be in the Queue?
We hope to get your fic read and approved or rejected within a week. Sometimes that is not possible - the QC team have lives too. Please be patient with us. If two weeks roll by and you've had no correspondence from us, drop one of the admin a line.
